Stardust Books and The Common Place

Stardust Books, located on Craftsbury Common, has been a satellite store of The Galaxy Bookshop since 2003. The store is staffed primarily by students from Craftsbury Academy.

As of January 1, 2010, Stardust Books is now independent of The Galaxy Bookshop and has merged with The Art House under the title of The Common Place.

The Common Place is a non-profit organization focusing its efforts in the literary arts at The Stardust Books and Cafe, and in the visual arts at The Art House, and spanning the space between to encompass local economy, job skills, and become a source of information and social interaction for the Northeast Kingdom and surrounding communities.

Stardust Books and Café: …….Social gathering place, book store and café serving locally baked goods and delicious coffee, teas and espresso drinks

Watch for:

  • Increased open hours targeting teens and young adults with after school activities and programs
  • Expanding adult literary programs and events
  • Continuing the “teen booksellers” learn and earn program
  • Providing space for other organizations and groups as an information and meeting center
  • Adding locally-made crafts to extend the farmers’ market through the winter



The Art House …….Studio, Gallery, and School


  • Workshops, courses and instruction for adults and youth in painting, photography, fiber arts, basket making, silk screening, sculpting, and more
  • Studio space for area artists
  • Children’s crafting workshops
  • Exhibits and sales of local fine art
  • Gift shop of locally, hand-made artisan works
