I know - yet another dystopian, fantasy/sci-fi series for teens. Give it a chance, though. This story, told by young Todd Hewitt, a boy on the verge of becoming a man, is remarkable for its sharp writing and memorable characters. Within the first pages, I became attached to Todd and his sweet, loyal dog Manchee who is as well developed as any human character. Maneuvering his way through a world he only thought he understood, Todd quickly finds himself on the run from violent men who wish him become like them. Both action and emotional tension make this a gripping, edge of your seat read.
