What about the cats??
Sadly, we will not be able to bring Scout and Jem along to the new space. This has been a difficult decision for us, but we feel that it would not be the best home for them, due to a lack of space and lack of barriers to the street. We will miss them very much, but are currently looking into possible homes for them. We are committed to giving them a new home where they can stay together and will be safe and well loved. When is this move happening? We plan to begin moving shelves within the current location on January 2, and expect to be settled on Main Street by February 1. The Center for Agricultural Economy (CAE) has generously offered to allow us use of the back room of the bank building for a few weeks so that we don’t have to move everything out at once. We will need to prepare the bank building for the CAE, and ready the new space on Main Street so we’ll have some shifting shelves in the meantime and stage from the rear of the building. We’re also giving ourselves a window for the actual move, rather than a specific date, to allow for bad (moving) weather. Will the bookstore close completely at any point? We certainly hope you’ll be unwrapping lots of gift books this holiday season to keep you well stocked in reading material for a few weeks, but we encourage you to think ahead about your reading needs during January! Hours will be limited for some part of our move, but (as mentioned above) the CAE is letting us use part of their new space, so we hope to maintain some semblance of normal business. Even during the times when we have to close up shop, you can always shop online at www.galaxybookshop.com or leave a message for us on the phone. Will there be a grand re-opening? We hope to plan a Valentine’s re-opening--a Galaxy Loves You! party. More details on this later. How can I help? If you are interested in helping us with the move, please get in touch with us, by phone (472-5533) or email (galaxybookgals@gmail.com) or face to face. We are keeping a list of interested helpers and will send word once we know what we need and when. When you contact us, please let us know if you have any special skills or talents that you think would be useful--for example, alphabetizing, bookstore moving, box packing, or coffee delivery. Will there be a t-shirt? If you know Linda, you know she’ll be hoping for snow and cold weather, which would not be conducive to t-shirt wearing. However, we are looking for ideas for some appropriate commemorative item for our helpers. What’s the new address? We will, of course, keep our PO Box 1219 and expect to maintain our phone number (802-472-5533). The new street address will be 41 South Main Street, Hardwick, Vermont 05843. |
