Bestselling author Gish Jen will be at The Galaxy Bookshop to read from her most recent novel\, World and Town. A rural New England town sets the stage for the story of the repercussions of a community's subtle but pervasive distrust of outsiders. That distrust is directed toward both a Cambodian family\, new in town\, and a long-time resident who becomes unwillingly involved in the newcomers' lives. As blame for unrest in the community is heaped upon the heads of the Cambodian immigrants\, tensions rise and tempers flare\, leading people on both sides of the matter to take unexpected action.
Gish Jen is the author of three previous novels and a book of stories. Her honors include the Lannan Literary Award for fiction and the Mildred and Harold Strauss Living Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She lives with her husband and two children in Cambridge\, Massachusetts.
