SUMMARY:Gish Jen - July 3
DESCRIPTION:

Bestselling author Gish Jen will be at The Galaxy Bookshop to read from her most recent novel\, World and Town. A rural New England town sets the stage for the story of the repercussions of a community's subtle but pervasive distrust of outsiders. That distrust is directed toward both a Cambodian family\, new in town\, and a long-time resident who becomes unwillingly involved in the newcomers' lives. As blame for unrest in the community is heaped upon the heads of the Cambodian immigrants\, tensions rise and tempers flare\, leading people on both sides of the matter to take unexpected action.

Gish Jen is the author of three previous novels and a book of stories. Her honors include the Lannan Literary Award for fiction and the Mildred and Harold Strauss Living Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She lives with her husband and two children in Cambridge\, Massachusetts.

SUMMARY:Patricia Ellis Herr - July 17
DESCRIPTION:

When you think of an experienced mountain climber\, you might picture a man or woman with sinewy legs\, a sunburned face\, and windblown hair. You might not imagine a 7 year old girl with over 48 summits under her small belt. It is the story of one small girl with incredible energy and drive who does not seem to know the meaning of the word &quot\;can't.&quot\;

Ellis Herr will be at The Galaxy Bookshop on Tuesday\, July 17th\, at 7 p.m. to talk about those experiences and sign copies of her book.
